Here’s a fun fact: Mundelein is an award-winning Park and Recreation District. Therefore you can bet that there is a host of awesome parks for all to enjoy, whether you’re wanting to break sweat on a trail run or spend the day picnicking with the family. You can rest assured Mundelein has a superbly managed park for you. Below we share three of our favorites:

Keith Mione Community Park

Named for the former District Commissioner of Mundelein, the Keith Mione Community Park covers a whopping 153 acres of natural land. The space packs a punch with a variety of activities and amenities for all to enjoy. This includes a community garden, fishing, ball fields, an ice rink, tennis courts and picnic areas.

One of the park’s biggest attractions in the summer is the Barefoot Bay Family Aquatic Center, the 6-care water wonderland. It makes for hours – in fact, full days – of fun with its features including massive tube slides, a 12-ft diving well and board, 740-ft lazy river, floating water walk and a variety of other fun-filled amenities within the center.

Diamond Lake Beach

A local favorite, Diamond Lake is the perfect place for a family day out. The 100-acre park includes a gorgeous lake, sandy beach, grassy areas and shaded areas perfect for picnics. These make for activities sure to keep everyone entertained, while also being the perfect place for some down time surrounded by nature.

You can enjoy long swims on the lake, but you can also spice it up with the floating sports park, sail around in paddle boats and kayaks or even experiment with paddle boards. All of these are available to rent from the park. Be sure to check out there fun and educational programmes for ages 3 to Pre-K.

Wilderness Park

Many Mundelein residents will agree that Wilderness Park is one of the Park District’s most scenic spots. Covering 12 acres of land, it is a popular outdoor destination for the whole family to enjoy. It includes a playground, shaded picnic area, a wide open wetland area, as well as provision for fishing.

Even you’re not coming with the whole family, Wilderness Park has a great walking or jogging path, ideal for a natural time-out from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
